Empowering Teen Mothers to Rebuild Their Lives
At Komera Initiative, we walk alongside young mothers in Rwanda, providing education, support, and opportunities for a brighter future.
Empowerment Programs
Supporting young mothers through education, mental health, entrepreneurship, and mentorship for lasting change.
Education Initiatives
We provide tailored educational resources, vocational training, and continuous support to empower young mothers and their children—equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to break the cycle of poverty and build sustainable, independent futures. Our programs also focus on helping teen mothers return to school and supporting vulnerable children who are unable to access education.
Mental Health & Healing
We offer compassionate mental health support services designed to help young mothers navigate the emotional and psychological challenges they face. Through counseling, peer support groups, and trauma-informed care, we empower them to heal, build resilience, and develop the emotional strength needed to care for themselves and their children.
Vocational Training and Entrepreneurship
We provide hands-on entrepreneurship training tailored for young mothers, equipping them with practical skills in business planning, financial literacy, product development, and marketing. Through workshops, mentorship, and access to startup resources, we empower them to launch and sustain income-generating activities that foster independence, build confidence, and ensure long-term financial stability for themselves and their families.
We believe that every girl and young mother deserves dignity and confidence — especially during menstruation. Our Hygiene and Menstrual Health program focuses on breaking the stigma around periods and ensuring that no girl misses school or life opportunities because of a lack of proper care. We provide:
Access to sanitary kits with reusable or disposable pads, underwear, soap, and instructions on usage and care
Educational workshops on menstrual hygiene management, reproductive health, and body awareness
Safe spaces where girls can openly ask questions, share experiences, and learn without shame
Support for schoolgirls and teen mothers to stay in school, even during their periods
This program empowers young women with knowledge and the tools they need to take care of themselves, fostering confidence, health, and equal opportunity.
At Komera, we understand that many teen mothers are abandoned by their families after becoming pregnant, leaving them vulnerable to homelessness, exploitation, and emotional trauma. Our Safe Shelter Program is a compassionate response to this crisis, providing a safe, nurturing space where young mothers and their children can find stability, care, and hope.
We offer:
Emergency and transitional housing for young mothers and children in crisis
Round-the-clock safety and support, including meals, hygiene essentials, and child-friendly spaces
Emotional and psychological care, helping mothers heal from rejection and trauma
Parenting education, empowering young moms to raise healthy, resilient children
Pathways to independence through education, vocational training, and life skills development
Komera’s shelter is more than a temporary solution — it’s a fresh start and a chance to rebuild a brighter, safer future for both mother and child.
Our mentorship programs are designed to provide young and teen mothers with the guidance, encouragement, and skills they need to thrive. We pair participants with compassionate mentors — including experienced women, educators, and professionals — who walk alongside them as they rebuild their lives.
Through regular one-on-one sessions and group workshops, our mentorship focuses on:
Personal growth and confidence building
Goal setting and life planning
Parenting advice and emotional support
Academic and career guidance
Spiritual encouragement and values-based leadership
Our mentors don’t just advise — they listen, inspire, and empower each young woman to believe in herself, overcome trauma, and step boldly into a brighter future.
At Komera, we believe that every child deserves a strong start in life. Our Early Childhood Support program is dedicated to nurturing the growth and development of children born to young and vulnerable mothers. Many of these children are at risk of developmental delays, malnutrition, and lack of early learning opportunities — especially when their mothers face social stigma and limited resources.
We provide:
Nutritional support to ensure healthy growth during critical early years
Early learning activities that promote cognitive, emotional, and social development
Safe, stimulating environments where children can explore, play, and learn
Parenting guidance for young mothers, equipping them with skills to support their children’s development
Health check-ups and immunizations in collaboration with local health partners
By investing in young children, Komera helps break cycles of poverty and trauma — building a stronger, healthier generation from the very beginning.
At Komera, we believe that true transformation begins in the heart. Our Faith-Based Empowerment Program integrates spiritual guidance with practical support to help young mothers rebuild their lives with purpose and confidence.
We offer:
Spiritual Counseling & Prayer Support – Helping young women navigate their journeys with faith, hope, and resilience.
Bible Study & Fellowship Groups – Providing a safe space for reflection, connection, and growth in God’s Word.
Faith-Driven Mentorship – Pairing teen and young mothers with spiritually grounded mentors who walk alongside them.
Values-Based Life Skills Training – Teaching leadership, character development, and decision-making rooted in faith and dignity.
Healing Through Worship & Community – Creating environments where women experience God’s love and restoration.
This program is open to all who seek encouragement and healing through faith, regardless of denomination. Our aim is to nurture both the spiritual and practical strength of each woman we serve — building empowered leaders and stronger families through love and grace.

Empowering Women through Collective Savings
We support community-based saving groups that empower women—especially teen mothers and vulnerable caregivers—to build financial resilience. These groups offer a safe and supportive space where members save small amounts regularly, access emergency loans, and learn basic financial literacy.
Through these savings groups, our members:
Develop a savings habit
Access small, low-interest loans
Learn about budgeting and financial planning
Support each other emotionally and spiritually
Fund small income-generating activities
