Empowering Adolescent Girls and Young Mothers

At Komera Initiative, we provide education, support, and hope for a brighter future

Esperance is the fourth child in a family of ten siblings, born into extreme poverty. During school holidays, she engaged in relationships with older men to obtain money for school materials and fees. This situation led to her becoming pregnant at a young age. After giving birth to her first child, Esperance was abandoned by her family. When they discovered that others were supporting her, they urged them to stop, further isolating her.

Esperance faced another pregnancy due to her difficult life circumstances. Unfortunately, she has also been diagnosed with HIV. Her story highlights the challenges faced by young women in similar situations, including lack of family support, limited access to education, and health risks associated with early sexual activity.
