Empowering Adolescent Girls and Young Mothers

At Komera Initiative, we provide education, support, and hope for a brighter future

Sylvie is the eldest of three children in her family. At the age of 17, she became pregnant. The father of her child initially claimed to be impotent, denying responsibility for the pregnancy. Despite this, Sylvie's parents did not ask her to leave home. However, they made it clear that they would no longer provide financial support for her, leaving Sylvie to face the challenges of pregnancy and parenthood without their assistance.

Before becoming pregnant, Sylvie had faced another significant setback. She was forced to drop out of school in Senior 2 after her father expressed that he could no longer afford to invest in her education, specifically stating that he couldn't spend on a girl's education. This decision not only limited her educational opportunities but also set the stage for her future challenges as a young mother.
