Empowering Adolescent Girls and Young Mothers
At Komera Initiative, we provide education, support, and hope for a brighter future

Umutoni Josiane
Josiane is now 20 years old and has both parents. However, her educational journey was limited to Primary 6. At the age of 18, she gave birth to a baby with a 27-year-old man. Unfortunately, he refused to acknowledge the child as his own, stating that he did not want a daughter and would have accepted the baby if it were a boy. Josiane currently does not know the whereabouts of the father of her child.
Despite working to earn money, Josiane struggles to provide for her child's needs, including food and education expenses. In desperation, she sometimes receives financial support from other men to help care for her child. Her dream is to attend a vocational training school, which she believes will equip her with the skills necessary to support her child independently in the future.
