Mountain gorilla
Mountain gorillas are Rwanda’s most iconic primates, known for their deep emotional intelligence and strong family bonds. They are a global symbol of conservation success.
Habitat
They live in the lush forests of Volcanoes National Park, nestled within the Virunga Mountains. Rwanda is one of the only three countries in the world where mountain gorillas can be found in the wild.
Conservation Note
Thanks to Rwanda’s strong eco-tourism and conservation efforts, mountain gorilla populations have been steadily increasing. Responsible trekking permits support both the animals and surrounding communities.
