Habitat

Lions are found mainly in Akagera National Park. Rwanda’s lions are a powerful symbol of successful wildlife conservation and the country’s dedication to restoring nature.

Conservation Note

After being declared locally extinct, lions were reintroduced to Rwanda in 2015. Thanks to ongoing protection efforts, they are now thriving again—one of the country’s most celebrated conservation success stories.
